Limbu:
Limbu is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken by the Limbu people in Nepal and Northeastern India (particularly Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Assam and Nagaland) as well as expatriate communities in Bhutan. The Limbu refer to themselves as Yakthung and their language as Yakthungpan.

The Limbu language has four main dialects: Phedape, Chhathare, Tambarkhole and Panthare. The Panthare dialect is the most widely spoken and is used as a lingua franca among the Limbu people.

The Limbu script is called the Sirijanga script. It is an abugida, which means that each consonant has a vowel sound associated with it. The vowels are written as diacritics above or below the consonants. The Sirijanga script is written from left to right.

There are about 800,000 speakers of Limbu worldwide. The language is in danger of extinction, as many young people are no longer learning it. There are efforts to preserve the language, such as the development of a Limbu-English dictionary and the creation of a Limbu language school.

To say hello in Limbu, you can say “Sewaro”. To say thank you, you can say “Lamro”.

Here are some other basic Limbu phrases:
• Goodbye: “Ngai la”
• How are you?: “Kya sa”
• I am fine: “Kya sa”
• What is your name?: “Ngai nam ke”
• My name is …: “Ngai nam … ke”
• Do you speak English?: “Ingrisi bolcha”
• Yes: “Hau”
• No: “Nahi”
