Lepcha :
The Lepcha language is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by the Lepcha people in the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal, as well as parts of Nepal and Bhutan. It is considered to be an aboriginal language, pre-dating the arrival of the Tibetan languages (Sikkimese, Dzongkha, and others) and more recent Nepali language.

Lepcha is a non-tonal Sino-Tibetan language, although it does have phonemic stress or pitch that may be marked in the Lepcha script. Much of its lexicon is composed of monosyllabic elements. Notably, words that are commonly considered obscene or taboo in other languages are not treated as such by native speakers.

The Lepcha script is an abugida, which means that each consonant has a vowel sound associated with it. The vowels are written as diacritics above or below the consonants. The Lepcha script is written from left to right.

There are about 30,000 speakers of Lepcha worldwide. The language is in danger of extinction, as many young people are no longer learning it. There are efforts to preserve the language, such as the development of a Lepcha-English dictionary and the creation of a Lepcha language school.

To say hello in Lepcha, you can say “Khaamree!”. To say thank you, you can say “Taokchhyee!”.

Here are some other basic Lepcha phrases:
• Goodbye: “Ngom la!”
• How are you?: “Aakyet do?”
• I am fine: “Aakyet go.”
• What is your name?: “Aadosaa abryaang syoo go?”
• My name is …: “Kasaa aabryaangre … go.”
• Do you speak English?: “Ingriis syee do?”
• Yes: “Hao.”
• No: “Oh.”
