Section A-(Reading Skills): 1. (a) Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: Ulhas Mandlik was a power-loom owner in Maharashtra. One evening he and his mother were going back home. It started raining heavily. So they took shelter under a bridge. There was a well nearby. Some labourers were under the roof of sitting the verandah of a house close to the well. Suddenly, Mandlik and his mother heard the screams of labourers. The two got to the welil.
They were told thata five year old boy named Hariya had fallen in through a side opening. Mandlik knotted together the ropes that he got from the labourers. Mandlik then tied the ropes waist. He to his asked the labourers to lower him into the well. The weak ropes were actually weak. Mandlik prayed that the ropes must not give away. He grabbed the child who was holding a pipe. On the child to his reaching the surface he handed the child to his reaching the surface he handed sobbing father. Several organisations honoured Mandlik for his bravery and presence of mind.
