Kannada, lso known as Kanarese, is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India, with minorities in all neighboring states. It has around 44 million native speakers, and is additionally a second or third language for around 15 million non-native speakers in Karnataka.
Kannada is the official language of Karnataka and is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. It is also one of the six classical languages of India, which means that it has a long and rich history and literature.
The Kannada script is derived from the Brahmi script and is written from left to right. The language is highly inflected, with three genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter), two numbers (singular and plural), and six cases (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive, ablative, and vocative).
Kannada has a rich and diverse literature, dating back to the 9th century AD. Some of the most famous works of Kannada literature include the Kavirajamarga, the Pampa Ramayana, and the Kumara Vijaya.
