Odia:
Odia is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the official language in Odisha (formerly rendered as Orissa), where native speakers make up 82% of the population, and it is also spoken in parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Odia is one of the many official languages of India; it is the official language of Odisha and the second official language of Jharkhand. The language is also spoken by 700,000 people in Chhattisgarh.
Odia is an Eastern Indo-Aryan language belonging to the Indo-Aryan language family. It descends from Odra Prakrit, which evolved from Magadhi Prakrit, which was spoken in east India over 1,500 years ago, and is the primary language used in early Jain and Buddhist texts. Odia appears to have had relatively little influence from Persian and Arabic, compared to other major Indo-Aryan languages.
Odia is written in the Odia script, which is an abugida, or alphasyllabary. This means that each consonant has a inherent vowel, and diacritics are used to change the vowel. The Odia script is written from left to right. Odia is a rich and vibrant language with a long and complex history. It is the language of a proud and ancient culture, and it is spoken by millions of people around the world.
Here are some basic Odia phrases:
• Hello: नमस्ते (namaste)
• Goodbye: नमस्कार (namaskar)
• Thank you: धन्यवाद (dhanyavad)
• You’re welcome: कृपया (kripaya)
• Sorry: माफ़ करिए (maaf karie)
• How are you?: आप कैसे हैं? (aap kaise hain?)
• I’m fine: मैं ठीक हूँ (main thik hoon)
• What’s your name?: आपका नाम क्या है? (aapaka naam kya hai?)
• My name is: मेरा नाम है (mera naam hai)
• Do you speak English?: क्या आप अंग्रेज़ी बोलते हैं? (kya aap angrezi bolte hain?)
• I don’t speak Odia: मैं ओड़िया नहीं बोलता हूँ (main odia nahi bolta hoon)
